College Art Association: 89th Annual Conference
College Art Association (CAA) will host its 89th Annual Conference Wednesday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the Chicago Hilton and Towers (720 South Michigan Avenue).
More than 5,000 visual artists, art historians, museum professionals and arts administrators from around the world will experience the best in scholarship, criticism, innovative art and stimulating discussions of the visual arts during the three-day Conference.
The Conference will open Wednesday evening with a public Convocation, at which Association Award recipients will be honored. The event's keynote speaker will be Mac Arthur Prize winner and Chicago-based artist Kerry James Marshall. Sessions and workshops will begin Thursday morning and run through Saturday afternoon. The Annual Trade and Book Fair will be open Thursday through Saturday.
The CAA Conference historically presents the single largest, most comprehensive placement service for art professionals in all fields. Mentoring workshops help students, emerging professionals and early-career artists develop professional resumes and slide portfolios. A comprehensive "virtual" Members' exhibition and Graduate Students' exhibitions will be held in conjunction with the Conference.
"The 2001 program includes three full days of sessions in all areas of studio art and art history, ranging from panels in which artists, critics and scholars present their most current work, to forums and discussions organized around the most compelling issues of the day," said CAA Executive Director Susan Ball. "We are extremely excited to hold our 89th Annual Conference in Chicago, one of the largest and most vibrant concentrations of art galleries, museums, cultural centers and educational institutions in the world."
