Virtual Volunteering: Catalogue and database management

Volunteer opportunity regarding catalogue and database management

A. Providing new information for TFAO's catalogues.

1. An intriguing challenge exists for further development of the topics catalogue, featuring TFAO's unique integration of paper-printed references plus online text, audio and video resources. For each topic TFAO is interested in:

-- books published on paper that are devoted exclusively to the topic
-- magazine articles published on paper that are devoted exclusively to the topic
-- DVD and VHS videos devoted exclusively to the topic
-- online audio files with substantial content devoted to the topic
-- online video files with substantial content devoted to the topic
-- online texts with substantial content devoted to the topic
-- online museum exhibitions devoted exclusively to the topic
-- websites devoted exclusively to the topic

TFAO is not seeking information on individual artists from volunteers. Individuals are covered in the Distinguished Artists catalogue and in articles and essays which we have published online.

2. The Distinguished Artists catalogue honors deceased artists with biographical information. TFAO seeks biographies of deceased American artists and artisans whose works have been exhibited in American art museums. Do you have a biography to contribute? To learn how please click here. All links to artist biographies must contain free information. TFAO avoids websites that require a fee to view complete biographies. Click here to learn how TFAO chooses individuals for inclusion in this catalogue.

3. The online Articles and Essays, Audio, Illustrated Audio and Videos catalogues are the first and largest of their kind. TFAO volunteers are on constant lookout for new listings - and replacement or removal of expired links. In some cases, TFAO is not seeking information on individual artists from volunteers.

4. TFAO also seeks further listings - and replacement or removal of expired links - for other catalogues including Books, Interactive media, Magazines and Videos. In some cases, TFAO is not seeking information on individual artists from volunteers.

B. Maintaining calendar listings for future museum exhibits through use of the Calendar Update Schedule.

On a monthly basis, TFAO volunteers review the Calendar Update Schedule (see A-C D-G H-L M-Q R-S T-Z) to locate museums for which their furthest exhibition closing month has expired. TFAO then reviews the current and future exhibition sections of web sites of targeted museums for new information. TFAO then updates the Schedule's listings for the targeted museums with new information by listing on the schedule the earlier of: 1. the furthest exhibition closing month in time or 2. a month which TFAO deems important for follow up. As a part of this review TFAO also updates the related exhibition calendar to include information on newly discovered exhibitions.

C. Compiling changes in phone numbers, web addresses, etc. within Resource Library's sub-index pages for selected art museums, galleries and art centers and other non-profit sources including academies, associations, ateliers and societies.

Please let TFAO know if you would like to be identified as the source for your information. As an example please note how we gave credit to Ms. Cheung at <http://www.tfaoi.org/aa/8aa/8aa344.htm>. If you have a website, TFAO would be pleased to provide a link to it in your credit line.
