Three new exhibitions will be opening in January featuring different styles from contemporary to landscape designs.

Contemporary Screenprints from the Permanent Collection will open January 10 - May 9, 1999. Screenprinting is one of the most versatile and contemporary forms of printmaking. It was developed in the Far East, but was not considered a serious art form until the 1930's. Pop artists of the 1960's found it an ideal medium for creating art that was a part of the mass culture it represented.

George Bellows: The War Series, on display from January 17 - May 2, 1999, is an exhibition of the artist's great essay on the brutality of war. George Bellows created this series of lithographs in 1918 in response to World War I. These searingly raw images comprise in part the great pictorial legacy of American art.

Hare & Hare Company: Landscape Architects for Villa Philbrook, January 17 - June 27, 1999, features S. Herbert Hare the landscape architect, who in collaboration with Edward B. Delk, designed the gardens at Villa Philbrook. Sidney T. Hare (1860-1938) formed a landscape architecture firm in 1910 with his son S. Herbert Hare, in Kansas City, Missouri, when the practice of landscape architecture was still a fledging profession. This exhibition will focus on the career of Hare & Hare Company, showing the range of their work beyond the landscape designs for Villa Philbrook.
