RASJr25: Robert A. Schaefer, Jr. -- 25 Years of Photography
The exhibition RASJr25: Robert A. Schaefer, Jr. -- 25 Years of
Photography runs through February 13, 2000 and highlights Schaefer's
innovations in photography, including alternative process prints and giclees
(which is French for "ink jet"), or large canvas images created

"I was intrigued by his work," Peter J. Baldaia,
chief curator at the Museum, said. "Robert has a 
distinctive eye as a photographer. ..seeing and framing
subjects that allow the viewer to look at the world in a completely different
and unique way."
A native of Cullman, Schaefer's photographs have been described as "architectural light," stressing the interplay between spatial planes and the central image. All of this is accomplished through controlled use of layering, shadows, reflection and refraction, producing images which the untrained eye can see, but so often misses. Schaefer
received degrees in architecture and photography at Auburn University and
in Munich, Germany. Now a New York resident, his work is featured in Paris,
Munich, New York City, and in the permanent collections of the Mobile, Montgomery,
Birmingham and Huntsville Museums of Art. (left: Berlin: City
