Sample Inquiry Letters:

"VHS/DVD videos in your collection"

Volunteers write email letters on behalf of TFAO from their own computers using their personal email addresses. The following letter may be used as a template for sending a letter to the librarian in a university or museum requesting information on videos in their collection.

Subject: (VHS/DVD videos in your collection)

Dear Colleague,

TFAO's Digital Library is conducting research to augment its online catalogue American art VHS videos. The VHS Videos catalogue is maintained at <http://www.tfaoi.org/aa/5aa/5aa96.htm>.

Could you please forward this letter to the person on your staff who maintains the museum's video collection?

For each video in your collection specific to American art, for which your Museum owns the copyright to the contents, we would appreciate obtaining information about the video so that we may include it in the Videos catalogue. Information which we request on each video includes:

1. Title

2. Producer

3. Director

4. Description of contents

5. Length in minutes

In addition, if you have a .jpg thumbnail of the video cover we will be pleased to include it alongside the text for the video. Also, if the museum store is selling copies of the video we will be pleased to provide a referral to the store's web page. (TFAO does not sell merchandise or accept advertising.) Traditional Fine Arts Organization's (TFAO) Digital Library and its publication Resource Library welcome volunteers to further the broadening of knowledge of American representational art. College interns are also welcome.

When you become a virtual volunteer you can help TFAO any time and anywhere. Projects are completed off-site in residences of volunteers or at other locations where access to the Internet and/or OCR scanning equipment are available.

Virtual volunteering is suited for individuals studying library science, art history and and others who enjoy research in order to expand and make more readily available knowledge of American fine arts. Interns and volunteers choose their own hours. We are proud to acknowledge our volunteers' efforts in published texts. Project-related out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursable.
