Creating a Reduction Woodblock Print
THE EIGTH AND FINAL COLOR RUN The Key Block was carved a fourth time to create the dark accents under the doorway frame. The block was proofed for registration and then printed over the previous runs (fig final, above)..
At this point, when the last color run has been made, acceptable prints are counted and numbered while the unacceptable prints are destroyed. The print edition is determined by the number of acceptable prints remaining after printing. As the image cannot be reprinted with the blocks having been destroyed, it is quite common to have odd numbered editions with Reduction Woodblock Prints.
