1997 Arts for the Parks Competition
The National Park Academy of the Arts, co-sponsor along with the National Park Foundation, of Arts for the Parks, presented the 1997 Arts for the Parks Competition $50,000 Grand Prize to Jason Rich, of Logan Utah on September 20, 1997. His winning entry entitled "Emerging" was selected from more than 2,328 entries submitted by artists from all fifty states, Canada, Austria, Mexico, England, Japan, Australia and Brazil.

In keeping with the contest theme of celebrating America'a national parks and monuments through art, Mr. Rich's oil painting portrays two mule deer in Zion National Park. The image will be featured in the 1997 Arts for the Parks Top 100 National Exhibition commemorating the wildlife, landscape and history preserved in the National Park System.
