Frontier Montana Gathering of Artists Featured at Hockaday Museum of Art
The first exhibition by the 1999 Frontier Montana Gathering of Artists will be featured at the Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell, Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site superintendent Tony Schetzsle announced today. The exhibition begins with a public reception at the Hockaday at 6 p.m. Friday October 1, 1999 and runs Tuesdays-Saturdays through November 13, 1999 at the museum, located at 302 Second Avenue East.
The Frontier Montana Gathering of Artists is an August event that invited 25 fine arts professionals to the Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS in Deer Lodge. Historic ranch landscapes and features have been rendered in oils, watercolors, and pastels, evoking the heritage of the nation's western ranching experience.
Featured artists include Kalispell artists Gini Ogle, Marsha Davis, Karen Leigh, and Corinne Lundgren; Bozeman painters Howard Friedland and Susan Blackwood; Fort Shaw artist Jeff Walker; and Winter Park, Colorado painter Karen Vance. Among the artists are three national park artists-in-residence and two members of the Plain Air Painters of America. Several have been featured at the annual CM Russell Art Exhibition in Great Falls.
Works are available for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS and Hockaday Museum of Art education programs. In November, the exhibition will move to the Montana Gallery of Fine Art in Deer Lodge, and in January 2000, to the Arts Chateau in Butte.
