By the Grace of Light: Images of Faith from Catholic New Mexico
A new exhibit is being hosted at the
Wiegand Gallery on the College of Notre Dame campus in Belmont, CA from
March 21 through April 24, 1999.
This show will feature photographs by Craig Varjabedian
which interweave both human and natural manifestations of the sacred. These
photographs simultaneously depict the architecture and rituals inspired
by faith and evoke the transcendence and spirit of the New Mexican landscape
itself. Displayed alongside these images will be examples of traditional
Hispanic santos. A catalogue will be available. 
In the words of writer, Mag Dimond, "Craig views all of New Mexico as an embodiment of the sublime - the land, rivers, houses, churches, cemeteries, crosses, and clouds." He adds: "Art is a sacred activity. It's one of the greatest sacred activities, the process of creation. Craig's images give us moments in his own continuing odyssey to connect with the great mystery."

Gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
