Kurt Weiser: Potter and Painter
April 10 through May 23, 1999
Mammal Landscape, 1993, china painted teapot
The smooth porcelain of oversized
jars and teapots provides an undulating surface for Kurt Weiser's extraordinary
old master inspired paintings of allegory and nature. Potter and painter,
Weiser combines function with communication, utility with decoration, and
traditional painting with contemporary craft. Approximately fifteen recent
objects by this Arizona-based artist, on loan from museums and collectors
across the country, will be featured in an ARTNOW presentation. This exhibition
is sponsored by William G. Thames.
