Norton Museum Organizes Bellows Exhibition
The Exhibition:
George Bellows: Love of Winter features approximately 25 of Bellows' greatest winter paintings. These works, created between 1907 and 1915, form a very definite group within the artist's oeuvre, and constitute, in many experts' opinions, the most critical moments in the artist's development. This is the first exhibition to concentrate exclusively on George Bellows' winter paintings. The aim of the exhibition is to establish the importance of these paintings in Bellows' development from spirited tonalist to exuberant modernist.
To accompany George Bellows: Love of Winter, the Norton is organizing Blanketed in Snow: American Winter Scenes. This exhibit features examples of winter paintings by many of Bellows' contemporaries, including American Impressionists and Modernists such as Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, George Luks, Ernest Lawson, John Sloan, Rockwell Kent and George Biddle.
