William Keith: California Awakening
June 9 through September 19, 1999
The best of the Saint Mary's College William Keith Collection plus specially selected paintings, sketches, documents, photographs, and memorabilia on loan from the Oakland Museum of California and private collections will be presented at the Hearst Art Gallery at Saint Mary's College in an exhibition titled William Keith: California Awakening from June 9 through September 19, 1999. William Keith (1838-1911) was a celebrated artist in San Francisco near the close of the 19th century, praised by naturalist John Muir as a "poet painter."
There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, June 9, 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. (members: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. -- general public: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.)
Jim Behlke, contemporary landscape artist, will share his painting adventures from the California mountain ranges to the Alaskan wilderness in a slide lecture, Sunday, June 27, 2 p.m. in the Art Gallery. Admission: $3 general, free to members and SMC. In addition there will be a Senior Tea & Tour onTuesday, July 6, 2 to 4 p.m., $3 general, free to members (reservations recommended)
