Eiteljorg Museum 1998 Indian Market
Entertainment by Native American dancers, singers and storytellers
is part of the action at the Indian Market. This year, visitors will see
the Crown Dance performed (pictured) and have the chance to take part in
songs, dances and games. Featured dance groups are the White Mountain Apache
Crown Dancers from Arizona and the Western Tennessee Choctaw Dance Group.
Fine jewelry, such as these earrings by Duane Maktima (Laguna Pueblo)
will be on sale at the Indian Market. Maktima is one of the leading Native
American jewelers in the country. His creative work is reminiscent of Charles
Loloma, the father of contemporary Indian jewelry that is based on cultural
traditions. Maktima also conducts design workshops for beginning jewelers.
The earrings pictured are gold with lapis, coral and jett.
