2023 American Art History Deep Dive Project, Part Five

Publicly Available Names, Titles and Email Addresses of Development Directors

In this project, our freelancer will discover and forward to us four-part data sets: 1. full name of the staff Development Director (DD); 2. her/his title; 3. name of employing museum or cultural center; 4. email address of the DD at this project's listed museums and cultural centers (institutions). Our president will use these sets of data to invite DDs to submit email letters of inquiry for exhibition co-sponsorship opportunities available from us. To become acquainted with our president's authorship, see this list of his published essays in our Resource Library, a collection of articles and essays honoring the American experience through its art.

Who Should Apply

Interested freelancers will primarily desire to educate the public about American representational art. Remuneration for the work involved will be a secondary motive.  Our freelancer must be familiar with structures of institutions' websites plus URL and email terminology including: domain, folder, pathway, subdirectory, directory, file name, page path and clear text.

Underlying Motive

To better understand the key motive leading up to this contract opportunity, see the strategy and preferences for our Museum Exhibition grant program.

Our freelancer will study institutions in alphabetical order within:

2. If there are not enough qualifying institutions within A-C D-G H-L M-Q R-S T-Z to add up to 100 acceptable four-part data sets, our freelancer will then search institutions within Limited descriptions of past exhibits - A>L - excluding all college and university art museums and galleries from the A>L list - until 100 Project Five sets are reached. All A>L institutions with URLs including .edu are excluded.

The source of DD data sets are websites of these institutions. Hint: data set information is usually available through the "About Us" tab on the website front page. Within this tab's information is often another tab leading to the information we seek. Other parts of an institution's site may also contain our desired information.

11/29/23 post project note: In this Part Five project, conducted in November 2023, there were 25 development directors within the first 90 Limited descriptions of past exhibits - A>L institutions ending with Demuth Museum. This is a 28% match rate. There are about 200 institutions in A>L. To yield 100 matches for part six, there needs to be about 360 institutions in total contained in Limited descriptions of past exhibits - A>L Audited 2023, Page 1 plus Limited descriptions of past exhibits - M>Z. Audited 2023, Page 2 (A through Z).  Considering that there are 24 universities in letter U, there may not be enough institutions to study in a part six project that yields 100 data sets.

Included employees

The institution's DD may also be titled:

Deputy Director and Chief Development Officer

Chief Development Officer

Head of Development

Managing Director, Development

Vice President, Development

Senior Director of Development

Chief Development Officer

Advancement Director

or another title indicating the head of the development department. Not acceptable are names of assistants or persons not employed directly by the institution.

The Art Museum Development Association has published online the list of it's members. Member names and titles provide insight, with the caveat that many names and titles aren't acceptable for purposes of this project.

We will accept only one data set per institution. We will not accept the main email address of the development department or institution. Email addresses not published on the institution's website are also not acceptable.

Payment Terms

We will pay our freelancer $3.00 USD for each acceptable data set, up to 100 data sets in total. This equals up to $300 USD.

There will be four milestones for the project consisting of 25 sets per milestone. Our freelancer will submit and have approved by us all twenty-five data sets before we escrow the funds for that milestone.

Each batch of 25 sets will be emailed to johnphazeltine@gmail.com with a copy to info@tfaoi.org. Each batch will be formatted only in plain text, excluding formats such as .pdf and .doc files.

Data set batches will be emailed with each set following the prior one in a single column.. Example:

Matthew Randolph

Director of Engagement
